UPDATE (April 15, 2020): Tomorrowland 2020 has been cancelled. Read the official statement, here.
It seems music festivals are set to be postponed through the summer as well as the Covid-19 situation worsens in parts of Europe.
Earlier this week, the Belgian Interior Minister, Pieter De Crem said that all summer festivals will most likely be postponed due to Coronavirus spread.
“THE INDICATIONS ARE SHOWING THAT IT WILL BE UNAVOIDABLE, BUT NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE YET”
The minister argued that even after the infection curve has flattened, experts think that the virus will still be around. Big scale events therefore represent a possible contamination cluster.
“We need to give better clarity with the government. But according to the information we have, I think that there is a certain probability that they (summer festivals) will have to be postponed” says Pieter De Crem.
The decision would ofcourse affect the fate of Tomorrowland, which as it stands is still to be held. In fact, the organisers released a statement recently saying they are working on a daily basis to ensure that the festival takes place under guidelines stated by the government.
News of festival cancellations has become the norm recently. Ultra Miami was also cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak in the US. This has influenced the whole European festival season with Italy and Spain among the worst hit countries outside of China and the US.
Do you think Tomorrowland will be able to avoid the backlash of this pandemic?
