Early on Friday, December 10, reports began surfacing on social media of the death of 25-year old Charles Elias Ingalls, better known by his artist name CharlestheFirst.
While his official cause of death still hasn’t been announced, a post from Lab Group shared he died in his sleep and as per a report from Fox 17, he was found dead by a friend in his hotel room on Friday morning. Ingalls was in town for a show he was set to play this weekend at The Caverns in Pelham.
CharlestheFirst was known for fusing his organic hip hop roots with lush and experimental electronic composition, as he developed a danceable style steeped in psychedelia.
In a post announcing the terribly heartbreaking news from Lab Group, a multimedia collective that Ingalls had cofounded, they shared, “A son, a brother, a friend, a poet, and an absolutely brilliant musician. He lived his life with a sense of magic and inspiration that most people only dream of.”
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce this.
