Coachella And Stagecoach Drop All Covid-Related Restrictions For 2022 Edition

Coachella and Stagecoach plan to celebrate like its 2019, sans masks, vaccine requirements, or even negative tests.

After announcing last fall that attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination or present negative tests within 72 hours, they’ve now dropped it all.

While this guidance does line up with the requirements lifted by the California Department of Public Health as of earlier this week, of not requiring proof of vaccination for large outdoor events, the complete U-turn from the requirement by the festival just a couple of months ago, has left fans wondering.

As per the official website under the Festival Admission Update tab, “In accordance with local guidelines, there will be no vaccination, testing or masking requirements at Coachella 2022.”

They have however followed it up with a Covid-19 Warning stating the obvious saying, “There is an inherent and elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place or place where people are present and there is no guarantee, express or implied, that those attending the festival will not be exposed to COVID-19.”

While Coachella will be returning to its home in Indio from April 15-17th and April 22nd-24th, its sister festival Stagecoach will follow the next weekend from April 29th – May 1st, 2022.

While Stagecoach chose to make a public announcement of the changes via social media, Coachella took the more silent approach and simply updated its guidelines on the website. However, they have not been spared the fury of Twitter over this sudden shift, and rightly so.

If we learned anything from Covid and what it did to the live events and music industry, it was that every precaution that can be taken at these large gatherings still needs to be taken, but Goldenvoice has chosen to do otherwise and we can now just wait and watch. It remains to be seen how this news ages and if there are any further changes in the next 2 months by the time the festival is set to take place.
