Drum and Bass as a genre witnessed another fantastic year and arguably, one of it’s best years. 2016 saw some brilliant albums, prodigious breakthrough artists delivering breathtaking material one some massive and forward thinking labels in the industry. The genre is more popular than ever with artists kicking the doors down of the UK charts- sweeping the top 10 and gaining exposure from major labels, music festivals and radio networks.

The Drum&BassArena, a website and brand established in 1996, which hosts D&BTV and features video clips, DJ sets, interviews, celebrated 20 years in the Drum and Bass industry. The brand has gone on to increase its hold by further extending their business into hosting events and tours, releasing compilation albums, merchandise and digital distribution, and various other brand extensions.

One of the activities Drum&BassArena has been doing for years is The Drum&BassArena Awards: A chance for D&B lovers, DJs, artists, MCs, labels, managers, agents, promoters and everyone behind the scene gather to enjoy some unified fun, make new friends and award the best acts and categories who have done exceptional work for the respective year.

Drum&BassArena hosted their eighth annual awards ceremony on December 7. It was their largest awards event to date in every way attracting more voters from more countries, and more bodies for the event which was held at Electric Brixton.

Andy C picked up the Best DJ Award whereas Mefjus’s Suicide Bassline VIP was voted as the best tune. Fans voted Children of Zeus feat. DRS – Still Standing (Lenzman Remix) for the Best Remix, which was arguably the best remix of the year. Hospital Records won the Best Label for the third year running. Noisia picked up three awards and DRS took two trophies for both Best MC and Best Vocalist.

The best moment of the night was FABRICLIVE winning Best Club Night and receiving a massive standing ovation from the crowd. The moment was pure Goosebumps.

This year’s Hall of Fame artist, Randall capped off a brilliant night laying down a stunning classics set at the end of the event.
