Joann Fabrics store closures are now underway nationwide, with all 800 locations set to shut down by the end of May 2025 following a full-scale liquidation.
The store closures will be completed by the end of May 2025.
The decision comes after Joann failed to find a buyer during its restructuring process. The company is liquidating assets and has partnered with GA Group, a firm that specializes in retail wind-downs. Liquidation sales are ongoing at all store locations.
The closures will impact approximately 19,000 employees. The company’s online store has also stopped accepting orders.

Joann’s downfall follows years of declining revenue due to shifts in consumer behavior, supply chain issues, and increasing competition from e-commerce and discount retailers. While sales spiked during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the momentum did not sustain.
Customers are encouraged to visit stores before the final closure dates to take advantage of clearance discounts. Gift cards will no longer be valid after closures are finalized.
Joann, originally founded in 1943 as the Cleveland Fabric Shop, had grown into one of the largest specialty retailers for fabric, sewing, and crafting supplies in the U.S.
