Lady Gaga Talks Joker 2’s Dual Reception and Future Projects
Lady Gaga has finally broken her silence regarding the cold welcome Joker: Folie à Deux received and its poor box office performance. The sequel to the 2019 movie Joker failed to live up to expectations, with the reception by the audiences as well as critics being quite cold. Alongside Joaquin Phoenix, the film could not compare with the box office performance of its predecessor, the box office collections not meeting the estimated figures.
Lady Gaga on Joker: Folie à Deux Reception

Lady Gaga had something to say about being an artist when things don’t work out as expected in a recent Elle interview, namely when projects aren’t as successful as anticipated. She made a statement regarding the reception of Joker: Folie à Deux, recognizing that it’s also the artist process for no one to connect with a movie. “People just sometimes just don’t like certain things. That’s it,” Lady Gaga responded straightforwardly. “And I feel to be an artist, you have to be okay with people sometimes not liking it.”
Though the film failed at the box office, Lady Gaga emphasized the importance of perseverance. She explained how artists ought to just keep moving forward, even when their work does not connect with the public in the way that they had envisioned. “You just keep going forward even if something didn’t speak the way you had envisioned. When that makes it into your life, that can be hard to keep in check. It’s part of the chaos,” she said. This public recognition of her own thought is indicative of the determination required in the entertainment industry, especially following disillusionment.
Although Joker: Folie à Deux did not fare as well as its creators had hoped, Lady Gaga remains looking to the future, such as her new album, Mayhem. In fact, her latest album can be considered as a personal album on the ordeal and suffering she has faced, both in professional life and personal life. “I feel some embarrassment and that’s a very vulnerable thing to share,” she confessed. “But I feel like by making this album, I was able to really love myself during all of that.”
Living Vulnerability Through Her Latest Album Mayhem

Lady Gaga went on to explain how creating Mayhem was a way of coming to terms with the past and accepting who she actually is. “Facing the music was a way of facing some of the things I’ve been through, and going, ‘It’s okay that that’s who you are,’ and celebrating it about me instead of trying to pretend it’s not real.”
The album Mayhem will contain 14 songs, including already heard tracks like Disease and Die With a Smile. Throughout Lady Gaga’s rise and fall in professional life, Mayhem will be an artistic and personal document of everything she has been through.
Meanwhile, Joker: Folie à Deux is still a psychological thriller and has also caught the attention of the public for its dark undertones and new take on the character of Joker. Directed by Todd Phillips, the movie stars Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the iconic villain, while Lady Gaga also appears as his love interest, Lee Quinzel. Aside from Gaga and Phoenix, the film has a cast of ensemble characters which feature Zazie Beetz, Leigh Gill, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Steve Coogan, and Harry Lawtey.
Lady Gaga’s strength and honesty regarding the highs and lows of her profession are encouraging. With her new album Mayhem and other upcoming endeavours, it is obvious that she will continue accepting all aspects of her existence.
