Mad Decent Boat Party cancelled following attendee’s suicide attempt

In a set of bizarre news stories that have been passing around, a female attendee – Kaylyn Rose Sommer, 24, reportedly jumped overboard the Norwegian Cruise Line in a reported attempt to commit suicide.

The ship used three of its own boats and notified the Coast Guard, as well as other relevant authorities. There were two search and rescue helicopters trailing the ship as well. However given the time of night and circumstances, the search has not been successful as yet.
Petty Officer Steve Lehmann says there’s hardly a protocol when it comes to these situations, since they vary so wildly. “The night does add its own set of risks,” he said. The temperature drops, and obviously darkness sets in.

Mad Decent released the following official statement:
Thursday, November 12 during the chartered cruise on Norwegian Pearl, a female guest was observed intentionally going overboard while the ship was sailing the Yucatan Channel. The ship’s crew immediately initiated rescue measures, including deploying three rescue boats and notifying the Coast Guard and other relevant authorities. The search for the guest is ongoing. Both the ship and charter company teams are providing support to the family and all impacted guests during this difficult time.

TMZ later released audio from the Mad Decent Boat Party’s captain, officially announcing the cancellation of the ship’s voyage. The vessel will proceed back to port in Miami.

The event has also affected artist performances. Oliver Heldens was forced to cancel one of his upcoming shows as the ship is turning around to return to Miami.

“Hi guys, due to the really sad incident aboard Mad Decent Boat Party yesterday the ship was unable to dock in Mexico today as planned by orders of the US Coast Guard, so I cannot currently get off the boat and will not make the show tonight at Fox Theater in Pomona, but we already have arranged a new date for February 20, 2016 with them for everyone who was going to attend. I want to wish my sympathies to those affected by yesterday’s event.”

The US Coast Guard has now taken over the search and is using all measures available to finding Kaylyn. Our thoughts be with her family and friends.
