Every once in a while, a prodigy comes along, who undoubtedly convinces people that he is the future. That happened a couple of years ago in the dance music industry, and the super talented prodigy continues to grow even today. Our Artist of the month for March is the multi-talented future of dance music – Madeon.
Born as Hugo Pierre Leclercq on May 30th 1994, the French DJ received widespread popularity through his video Pop Culture, which went viral on YouTube. Very soon he was releasing his own EP called The City, and the title track of the EP remains one of his best works to date.
15 year old Madeon won a remix contest for Pendulum’s “The Island”, in 2010, and there was no looking back since then. His mashup video went viral on YouTube the following year, where he was seen mixing tracks on the go on a Novation Launchpad.
His first single, “Icarus” only helped cement his reputation as an emerging producer, as did his memorable remix for Deadmau5′ track, “Raise Your Weapon”. His first EP firmly established his place in the ‘Artists To Watch Out For’ category.
With his meteoric rise to stardom at such a young age, he was given various opportunities to play at some of the biggest festivals in the world, including Ultra Miami and EDC New York. He even made his debut on the DJ Mag list for 2012, coming in at No.54.
His music has been used time and again on TV shows and video games, including Need For Speed and FIFA 13 & 15. ESPN Winter X Games 2013, held in France used his remix of Martin Solveig’s, “Night Out” on the official soundtrack of the event, and the broadcast of the event repeatedly used his track ‘Finale’.
Madeon also had the opportunity to open for none other than Lady Gaga at her Born This Way show. He even worked on 3 tracks of Lady Gaga’s 2013 album ARTPOP. According to him, The Beatles and Daft Punk are his greatest musical influences.
In 2013, Madeon released a new single called “Technicolor”, which received a very good response, and Madeon followed it up with “Cut The Kid” in February 2014, releasing it as a free download. In September last year, he released ‘Imperium’ as part of the FIFA 15 soundtrack, and later announced that the track was the first single from his debut album Adventure, due to release in 2015.
He even released ‘You’re On’ , the second single from the album, in December 2015.
Madeon today continues to create a huge buzz every time he releases a new track, and it was evident from the reception that ‘Pay No Mind’, his new track with Passion Pit recently received. We wish Madeon all the best for 2015.
