Spain’s Medusa Festival took a turn when ‘violent winds’ caused the mainstage of the festival to collapse, killing one and injuring over 40 people in the process.

The winds which hit around 50 mph swept the festival site around 4:00 am on Saturday (August 13, 2022) morning.

As reported by the BBC, the severe and unexpected winds “destroyed” parts of the festival grounds causing a portion of the main stage to collapse. The aftermath of this led to one man in his 20s dying and at least 40 people were injured; of those, three people suffered serious trauma injuries.

The festival’s lineup featured the likes of Steve Aoki, David Guetta and Afrojack shortly after announcing that the rest of the Festival was suspended as they shared condolences with the friends and families of those impacted by the inclement weather saying, “We are completely devastated and dismayed at what happened last morning. The management of Medusa Festival would like to express our deep and sincere condolences to the family and friends affected by the fatal consequences that occurred last night.”

Around 50,000 festival attendees were around when the horrific incident happened. Addressing the tragedy, Ximo Puig, president of the Valencia regional government, said in a statement, “A terrible accident that shocks all of us. I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young man who died early this morning at the Medusa Festival in Cullera.”
