Joann is shutting down all its locations as part of its bankruptcy process, adding to the growing list of stores closing nationwide.
The retailer had initially planned to shut down over 500 stores but has now confirmed that every location will be affected.
Gift Cards No Longer Accepted
As the company moves toward liquidation, Joann has stopped accepting gift cards as of February 28, 2025. Customers hoping to use their remaining balances before the shutdown have been left frustrated. While some state laws regulate gift card expirations, bankruptcy proceedings determine whether stores closing can still honor them.
Many shoppers have expressed anger online, saying they purchased gift cards with the expectation of using them. Joann, like other retailers shutting down, has cited financial struggles as the reason for its decision.
Liquidation Sales and Store Closures
Joann’s going-out-of-business sales are now in full effect, offering discounts on remaining inventory. However, all purchases are final with no returns or exchanges. These sales will continue until all locations shut down permanently.
The retailer joins other stores closing across the country, including Tuesday Morning, Christmas Tree Shops, and Bed Bath & Beyond. With more chains struggling, retail analysts predict additional store closures in 2025.
Retail Shutdown Continues
The list of stores closing keeps growing as more companies struggle with high costs and online competition. Joann’s shutdown reflects broader trends in the industry, where many businesses are finding it difficult to keep physical locations profitable.
Shoppers still have time to shop liquidation sales before stores shut down, but the closure is moving fast. As more retailers announce shutdowns, customers are being warned to use gift cards quickly before another major brand stops accepting them.
