Is Pandora catching up with Spotify and Apple Music?

Pandora has launched a premium family plan for $15 which will provide 6 unique users access to unlimited music streaming.

Pandora used to be one of the highest used music streaming platforms when it came into being. However, due to certain licensing rules and limitations, users could not pick the exact songs they wanted to hear. During that time, Apple Music and Spotify struck flexible licensing deals. Spotify also provided freedom to the non-paying listeners to pick their music of choice.

The new plan by Pandora is a great option for families or groups, who have individual plans and pay $9.99 every month. Upgrading to the premium plan, will mean a huge saving for 6 users as only one unique user will be charged the monthly subscription fee.

With this plan, users can download music and listen to it offline, skip and replay songs, enjoy high quality audio, and will be subject to zero advertising. The interesting feature play would be the ‘our soundtrack feature, which will study the musical habits of all the unique users on the subscription and provide a regularly updated playlist.’

This plan matches the Apple Music Family Subscription plan in terms of cost and unique users, however, spotify’s family subscription plan is limited to 5 users.

This plan might help Pandora increase its subscriber base, but whether can they catch up to Spotify’s 75 Million subscribers as of May 2018, and Apple music’s 50 Million subscribers is yet to be seen.
