I’m sure all of you have heard of the Zika virus at least once by now. The virus usually doesn’t kill people, however is known to cause serious birth defects in pregnant women among other symptoms of pain and discomfort. So what does this have to do with Lollapalooza Columbia being cancelled? Well, Rihanna was meant to appear as the surprise guest for Lollapalooza Colombia this September in Simón Bolívar Park, Bogota on the 17th and 18th, but withdrew herself due to risks of catching the Zika virus. Not being able to find another performer to fill her spot in time, the organizers for the event had no choice but to cancel the event!

This year was supposed to be the first year Lollapalooza held one of their festival events in Colombia. The remarkable lineup included artists such as Yellow Claw, Lana Del Rey, Disclosure, Silversun Pickups, The Chainsmokers, and plenty more.

The pop singer who’s recent music video with Calvin Harris for “This Is What You Came For” just hit a whopping one hundred million views over two days ago wasn’t the only one who refused to fly over to the country. According to People magazine, many athletes from all over the world withdrew from the 2016 Rio Olympics to avoid catching the virus as well, some to prevent harming families, some from potentially having unhealthy babies in the future. Other athletes who still decide to participate will be doing so cautiously.

Everyone who purchased tickets for the festival will all receive a full refund.
