Having been a fan of dance music and Armin van Buuren since 2003, I was inspired to start my own electronic music publication with a very simple, and clear goal - to share electronic music with old, and new fans alike. Working alongside a great team has made me keep that goal alive, and build on it.

Sting on Diddy: Music Legend Speaks Amid Diddy’s Arrest

Sting and Diddy – two musicians whose names forever rattled the music community with their iconic contribution to “I’ll Be Missing You.”

With Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs facing serious legal charges, Sting, whose classic hit “Every Breath You Take” was sampled in Diddy’s 1997 tune, has spoken out. As the gravity of the charges is pending, Sting is firm in his viewpoint: the legacy of the song remains unscathed.

Sting Speaks Out on Diddy’s Legal Brouhaha

Sting made it obvious in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times that Diddy’s legal woes, such as sex trafficking and racketeering accusations, are in no way connected to what he thinks about the song. “It doesn’t taint the song at all for me. It’s still my song,” Sting said. This reflects on the longevity of “Every Breath You Take,” even with controversy surrounding sampling.

The Legacy of “I’ll Be Missing You”

Diddy’s “I’ll Be Missing You” was a moving tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G., co-produced with Faith Evans and 112. The heavily sampled tune, based on “Every Breath You Take,” was a reminiscing song. Sting himself joined Diddy on a classic Grammy performance in 1998, sealing their creative chemistry.

Interestingly, this collaboration has a financial past. In a 2018 interview, Sting mentioned that Diddy pays him a daily fee for the unauthorized sample of the song, with Diddy also humorously affirming that it might be as much as $5,000 a day. Despite the cost, Sting described Diddy as a “very good friend” and praised the song as a “beautiful version” of his own.

Diddy’s Current Legal Battle

Though his music lives on, Diddy’s legal woes are mounting. Already detained at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, he is charged in federal court with sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting individuals for prostitution. His trial starts in May 2025, to which he has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

All of this aside, Sting’s preoccupation is still the music. His steadfast backing demonstrates the power of art to transcend individual scandals.

Sting Diddy: The Timeless Collaboration

The survival of the relationship between Sting and Diddy, despite all the recent drama, speaks volumes about how much they respect each other and the legacy of their work together. “Every Breath You Take” remains in the ears of fans across the globe, reminding us of the ability of music to provide comfort and unity in the face of adversity.
