swedish house mafia interview

In a stellar interview, more than an hr long, the legendary trio sat down with the iconic Zane Lowe to discuss everything from the new album to collaborations and much more.

While the trio has been in the limelight on the regular since they announced the new album and slowly began releasing singles, now that the album is officially out, it’s at a whole new level. Hot off the heels of the album launch and their massive headlining set to close out Coachella with the Weeknd, Zane Lowe spoke to Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello in this hour-long tell-all.

Trying to get all of us the answers we as fans have wanted for years, Zane Lowe asked the trio a plethora of questions. Taking it back to the early days, when they decided it was time to split and on to the reunion at Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2018, Axwell spoke about how it was all so organic and one thing just lead to another. He went on to say, “First of all, decided to do the show at Ultra together, and then do a festival tour together, and then make music together. Just like everything, it’s all stepping stones. One thing leads to another.”

Speaking about the album, Ingrosso shared that it was Steve Angello who had first presented the idea and how they each reacted at that time. He also went on to share how big of an impact the pandemic had in giving them the dedicated and protected time to work on Paradise Again.

Perfectly encapsulated from the interview, by Dancing Astronaut, providing perspective on some of the tracks the trio shared how “Home” was how they envisioned Swedish House Mafia would sound on a Sunday morning, “Mafia” was the quickest of the album tracks and was a representation of the drama they’d been through—originally being named “Drama”—”Frankenstein” came together almost immediately, with A$AP Rocky being the first person they had on their collaborative wish list for the album, “Don’t Go Mad” was named that because they literally got mad while trying to perfect it using so many different elements, “19.30” was made from Steve Angello’s new analog drum machine and was the only Paradise Again cut that went unmixed, and finally “For You” had “checked off everything” they wanted in a track and was meant to be a thank you back to fans, using 20 different vocalists in total.

Watch the entire interview here are the trio opens up as they’ve never before.
