Donald Trump has officially broken his silence on the ongoing drama with Elon Musk, and he’s making it crystal clear he’s not thrilled with the billionaire.
During the debut episode of the Pod Force One podcast with Miranda Devine, Trump called out the X (formerly Twitter) CEO for taking a swing at what he considers one of his greatest legislative wins.
It all started when Musk slammed Trump’s flagship spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” and blaming it for adding to the national debt. Trump didn’t take the criticism lightly. “He went after a bill that’s phenomenal, the best thing we’ve ever signed in this country,” Trump said. “I was really surprised that that happened.”
And that was just the beginning. Musk’s criticism spiraled into a full-on social media war. The SpaceX boss took to X and shared controversial posts suggesting Trump was tied to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and even called for him to be impeached. Trump fired back on Truth Social, calling Musk a “big-time drug addict.” So yeah, things got ugly, fast.
But despite the back-and-forth jabs, Trump is leaving the door cracked open for a possible reconciliation. “I was not a happy camper,” he said about Musk’s posts. “I have no hard feelings,” he added, making it clear that while he’s disappointed, he’s not completely writing Musk off.
Interestingly, Musk has also taken a step back from his fiery comments. He admitted on X that some of what he said “went too far.” Trump acknowledged the apology but didn’t exactly let him off the hook, saying, “I was disappointed in him, but, you know, it is what it is.” Trump also stressed he hasn’t really given Musk too much thought lately but emphasized that the bill Musk criticized is “so good” that it deserves better than the flak it got.
This all came just days after the two were apparently on good terms, Trump had even hosted a send-off for Musk in the Oval Office as the tech mogul wrapped up a government role. That quickly changed once Musk started firing public shots at the former president.
When Devine asked if Trump would consider making up with Musk, Trump didn’t say no. “I guess I could,” he said. “But we have to straighten out the country. And my sole function now is getting this country back to a level higher than it’s ever been.”
Despite all the chaos, Trump did acknowledge one thing: “Elon agrees” with the slogan “Trump was right about everything,” signaling that some level of respect might still exist between them.
When asked about his earlier claim that Musk has “problems,” Trump kept it vague. “I don’t know what his problem is, really,” he said. “I haven’t thought too much about him in the last little while, but the bill is so good.”
This isn’t the first time Musk has clashed with Trump’s political moves. He’s previously criticized tariffs and other fiscal policies. Musk was once one of Trump’s most vocal supporters during the 2024 campaign trail but hasn’t held back when he disagrees with Trump’s leadership.
Even though Musk has walked back some of his harsher comments, it’s still uncertain whether these two powerful figures can fully mend fences. Trump also warned of “serious consequences” if Musk ends up backing one of his political opponents financially, so while the olive branch is out, the warning signs are still flashing.
Bottom line? This feud may not be over. But in Trump’s world, as long as you don’t cross the red line, and maybe say he was right about everything, you might still have a shot at redemption.
