Donald Trump’s Easter message wasn’t filled with peace, renewal, or the spirit of forgiveness.
Instead, it was a fiery, insult-laced tirade posted on Truth Social early Sunday, April 20, that took aim at his favorite punching bags, immigrants, political opponents, and the American judicial system.
While many Americans were gathering with family or attending Easter Sunday services, the former president used the occasion to lash out at “Radical Left Lunatics,” accusing them of trying to flood the country with “Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, the Mentally Insane, and well-known MS-13 Gang Members and Wife Beaters.”
He followed that up with a scorched-earth shot at law enforcement and the judiciary, saying, “Happy Easter also to the WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Judges and Law Enforcement Officials who are allowing this sinister attack on our Nation to continue, an attack so violent that it will never be forgotten!”
This comes on the heels of a late-night Supreme Court ruling that temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s aggressive deportation plan. The surprise SCOTUS intervention appeared to ignite Trump’s social media blast, one that many critics argue showed blatant disrespect for the judiciary and due process.
Trump’s Easter outburst didn’t end there.
He doubled down on his baseless claims about the 2020 presidential election, blaming Joe Biden for “purposefully” allowing “Millions of CRIMINALS” into the country and calling him “by far, our WORST and most Incompetent President.”
And then, in vintage Trump style, he wrapped the vitriol in sarcasm: “To him… and to all of the people who CHEATED in the 2020 Presidential Election in order to get this highly destructive Moron Elected, I wish you, with great love, sincerity, and affection, a very Happy Easter!!!”
Trump’s message sparked immediate backlash from civil rights groups, immigration advocates, and legal scholars. Many viewed it as another example of how he continues to blur the lines between religious observance and political propaganda.
“He weaponizes faith days like Easter to whip up anger, not unity,” one legal analyst noted. “It’s dangerous and divisive.”
Even some in conservative circles privately questioned the tone. “You can criticize policy without turning Easter into a flame war,” said a Republican strategist under anonymity. “This is not how you win back moderate voters.”
Trump’s inflammatory post lands at a critical time. He’s facing a growing stack of legal challenges, including a Supreme Court fight over his immigration actions, ongoing indictments, and persistent scrutiny over election interference. Yet, for his base, this kind of rhetoric still hits hard, and rallies the faithful.
The irony wasn’t lost on observers that while his second-in-command was meeting with Pope Francis, Trump was launching all-caps diatribes about “WIFE BEATERS” and “CRIMINALS” instead of reflecting on Easter’s core messages of grace and redemption.
With the 2024 election cycle now fully underway, moments like this show Trump has no plans to soften his approach, or his tone. Easter, like every other day on the Trump calendar, is apparently fair game for political warfare.
