“2022 State Of Music”, the detailed 35-page report by music research and analytics platform Viberate (co-founded by Techno veteran UMEK), takes a look back at 2021 but also a look forward into what to expect from 2022.

The report was created by crunching over a trillion data points and annual numbers behind every relevant music and social media channel including, Spotify, Beatport, and TikTok.

Looking at popular genres across social channels, Pop dominated the ranks on Spotify and YouTube, as well as social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, whereas electronic music reigned supreme when it came to SoundCloud and the radio waves calling it a tie between both genres.

Beatport’s 2021 year in the review showed Tech House as holding its ground as the top genre from the previous year with Melodic House and Techno moving up one spot to second place and House dropping to third place.

With the limited number of festivals that did make it back in 2021, to be precise it was less than a third of the top 500 music festivals in the world. About 33% of those active festivals saw predominantly Electronic artists being booked with 57% and followed by Hip Hop and Pop at 36% of the acts as the secondary genre.

Speaking about the report, techno veteran and co-founder of Viberate, UMEK said, “We’re always excited to showcase data conclusions among expert opinions. Data is objective and paints an unbiased picture of how popular someone or something is. Music consumption grew in 2021, so my goal for 2022 is using data findings to try and improve my stats even further – and I encourage others to do so as well.”

Sharing 8 trends that they predict will shape the music industry in 2022, the report emphasized the importance of personalizing and creating fan-first approaches and also shared the continued popularity non-english music in the mainstream. They also predicted the resurrection of Rock back to the mainstream courtesy of TikTok, the growing importance of digital monetization and NFT’s, as well more.

The report shared a lot more insights and details and you the full and detailed report here.
