Chinese Footballer Guo Jiaxuan Dies at 18 Following Head Injury in Spain

Guo Jiaxuan, a promising 18-year-old Chinese footballer, tragically passed away on March 19, 2025, after suffering a severe head injury during a friendly match in Spain.

The Beijing Guoan U-19 player, who had previously participated in FC Bayern Munich’s World Squad project, succumbed to complications from a brain hemorrhage following a collision on the field.

On February 6, 2025, Guo Jiaxuan sustained a critical head injury during a match between Beijing’s U-20 team and RC Alcobendas in Madrid. The collision led to a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of brain bleeding that occurs between the brain and the thin tissues covering it. Emergency medical teams rushed him to a Madrid hospital, where he was declared brain dead.

Shortly after, Guo was transported back to Beijing Tiantan Hospital, where he remained in a coma. Despite medical intervention, he passed away just one day before his 19th birthday.

Guo was a key player in Beijing Guoan’s youth squad, competing in China’s top-tier football leagues. His talent had earned him a place in FC Bayern Munich’s World Squad program, which selects and nurtures young footballers from across the globe. His participation in the program showcased his potential on an international stage.

Concerns from Guo Jiaxuan’s Family

Guo’s family has requested video footage of the match and additional details about his medical treatment before hospitalization. They are seeking clarity on the circumstances of his injury and the immediate response from match officials and medical staff.=
