Tennis great John McEnroe sees big things ahead for Jack Draper, predicting the British star will win “multiple” Grand Slam titles after his impressive performance at the 2025 French Open.
Speaking after Draper’s gritty four-set win over French veteran Gael Monfils on Thursday, McEnroe didn’t hold back his praise. “I tell you one thing, he won a lot of fans tonight with the way he played and the way he acted,” he told TNT Sports. “It’s one of those matches you’re proud to be a tennis player. You look at a guy who’s 38 and still moving incredibly well, and Draper just kept improving under pressure.”
McEnroe, a seven-time major winner himself, pointed out the 22-year-old’s all-round game and rapid development as key indicators of future success. “I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t win multiple majors. He can do everything. The serve is huge, he’s an excellent volleyer, and he’s maturing with every match.”
Draper, who has climbed into the ATP top five after a stellar year, is being touted as one of the next big stars in men’s tennis. He’s shown he can perform under the spotlight, and McEnroe believes that’s a critical piece of the puzzle. “The guy is in unbelievable shape,” he added. “He took his shirt off and I was immediately jealous.”
The win over Monfils was more than just a battle on the court, it was a mental test. Playing against a home favourite in front of a packed Paris crowd, Draper stayed composed and delivered a professional performance. It’s exactly the kind of challenge that shapes future Grand Slam champions.
Up next for Draper is 17-year-old Brazilian talent Joao Fonseca in the third round. McEnroe expects fireworks. “Fonseca’s going to bring flair, no doubt. He’ll have the fans behind him, and if it’s a small court again, it might get tricky for Jack. But these are the matches that prepare you for the big time.”
The American legend also hinted that this clash could be the start of a long-running rivalry. “You’re going to see a lot of those two in the next 10 years. That’s box office right there.”
As Draper continues his French Open run, the buzz around him is growing fast. With McEnroe’s strong backing and his current form, the conversation around Jack Draper Grand Slam titles isn’t just hype, it’s becoming a real possibility.
