Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has officially announced that he will leave the club at the end of the 2024-25 season, ending a historic 10-year stint at the Etihad Stadium.
De Bruyne, 33, shared the news via a heartfelt social media post on Friday. “These will be my final months as a Manchester City player,” he wrote. “This city. This club. These people… gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back. And guess what — we won everything.”
The Belgium international, who joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015, is regarded as one of the Premier League’s greatest midfielders. Over the past decade, he has won 16 major trophies with City, including six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League.
In 413 appearances for the club, De Bruyne has registered 106 goals and 174 assists. He is tied with Thierry Henry for the most assists in a single Premier League season (20).
Pep Guardiola called the news “a sad day for Manchester City” and praised De Bruyne as a “once-in-a-generation” player whose impact will be felt for years.
De Bruyne has not announced his next destination, though he has been linked with potential moves to the MLS and Saudi Pro League.
With City still competing in the FA Cup and Champions League, De Bruyne could yet add to his trophy haul before bidding farewell to the club he has called home for a decade.
“This will always be our home,” he concluded in his message, referencing his family’s deep connection to Manchester.
