Apple announced a surprising strategy for making improvements to its AI, and it is a doozy.

The tech giant has promised it will improve its AI models without tapping into users’ private data or sending the data off their devices. This is a huge step in the company’s ongoing efforts to maintain user privacy while still advancing in technology.
In a blog post recently, Apple shared some details on the method they employ to help improve AI; it’s actually pretty smart. Instead, it takes that synthetic data and runs it against samples of recent emails or messages from users who have opted into its Device Analytics program. But do not get worried: in this process, no actual user data gets sent out, nor is it stored on Apple’s servers.
How does it work? Well, Apple has created these special devices that would determine which synthetic input most resembles real data. Then, the device will send to Apple only a signal indicating which sample fits best. No real content, no personal information-just a signal to improve the system. What this means is that users’ data remains on the user’s device, never leaving, and it is never used in any manner that would be compromising to their privacy.

Apple frames this process as a big win for both privacy and AI development. In this kind of system, it improves text-based AI features-for instance, summarizing email-without needing or even accessing your personal data. Instead, it aggregates data in order to work out what works best in its AI models in a secure, anonymous way.
That means more privacy for the users, without them having to give up functionality or the enhancement of their AI features. If you have been wondering how Apple can refine its AI while respecting your privacy, this is it.
With this, the new system at Apple is going to be a game-changer for all those privacy-conscious users who wish to enjoy the best of both worlds: AI benefits without compromising on their data. Quite obviously, Apple is onto keeping user information safe while making sure its AI gets smarter.
