Bad news for Witcher fans – The Witcher 3 may not get a Nintendo Switch 2 release.
CD Projekt Red is reportedly going all-in on Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Nintendo’s next-gen console, and that means Geralt might sit this one out.
Speaking with Eurogamer, CD Projekt’s gameplay technical designer Filip Downar confirmed the team’s current focus is locked on launching Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for the new Switch 2. He admitted that while they loved the reception The Witcher 3 got when it was ported to the original Switch back in 2019, it’s not part of their active plans right now.
“Our relationship with Nintendo goes back to the original Switch, where we released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” Downar explained. “We were happy with how that game was received, so when we heard about the more powerful Nintendo Switch 2, we immediately thought it would be the perfect platform for Cyberpunk 2077.”
The team is pumped to be part of the Switch 2’s lineup, especially with the exclusive features it brings. Downar added, “It’s incredibly exciting to be a launch title for this new hardware. With features like motion controls, gyroscope support, and mouse sensor capabilities, we’re eager to see how players dive into Cyberpunk in new ways.”
Still, for anyone hoping for a next-gen Witcher 3 portable experience, it looks like you’ll have to keep dreaming-for now at least.
