Tech house has had an incredible 2018!

The Christmas party season is upon us and with it comes a host of club shows, paying homage to records which have provided the soundtrack to 2018.

And tech house has had another incredible year, with some of its most successful brands growing even greater in size and becoming globally renowned faces of the sub-genre – it’s a sub-genre which has dominated both Europe and the US this summer. The creativity within its trenches has provided some amazing results and there’s a host of new artists who’ve been paving the way through the last twelve months to become recognizable names, not just within tech house but also throughout the entire spectrum of dance music.

Below we’ve selected five imperative acts that have pushed through the ranks this year, smashing out DJ sets throughout the touring circuit and dropping cut after explosive cut. This is by no means an extensive list of every artist who’s made their mark, but it’s a good summation of the DJs and producers you should be adding to your New Year’s Eve playlist.

Wh0

The first name on our list is Wh0. The anonymous pair has had a monumental year; formed in 2018, their reworks of Basement Jaxx’s ‘Romeo’ and ‘Where’s Your Head At’ garnered mainstream support, leading to the likes of Blonde and the Prodigy also wanting their remixing services. After releases on 3Beat and Toolroom, as well as a number of club shows in the latter part of this year, they’re looking to enter 2019 on an even bigger platform.

Ed Mason

With releases on George Mensah’s LoveJuice, a pedestal for like-minded producers who put on world-renowned parties, Ed Mason has been releasing plenty of music over the last few years but 2018 has seen some of his most definitive tracks. Supported by Sammy Porter and many other imperative DJs, expect to hear more from ED Mason in the New Year.

Rebūke

For many listeners, Rebūke first came into the equation after his track ‘Burma Apaches’ was featured on Nic Fanciulli’s Radio 1 Essential mix at the end of 2017. His own residency ‘Outhouse’, also the name which he gave the track teamed with ‘Burma Apaches’, has become notorious among the scene’s grassroots ravers, with Solardo, Camelphat, Darius Syrossian and more joining him in the booth. Signing music to Saved, Toolroom and more, his sonic reimaginings will continue to grow his profile throughout 2019.

Tuff London

Championed by Danny Howard, Tuff London are another hotly tipped act for 2019 – their recent ‘Tattle Tale’ EP on Sonny Fodera’s Solotoko, featuring tracks ‘Calling’ and ‘Talk to Me’, is a testament to the pair’s talent.

Vibe Killers

A house and techno DJ from Burnley, Vibe Killers has unleashed a variety of tracks on some of the biggest imprints in dance music. He’s made an impact of Solardo’s Solá, Elrow, Hottraw and Knee Deep in Sound, becoming a staple in sets from the UK to Ibiza and whilst he’s not necessarily a new face, 2018 has been one of his biggest years to date.

The above artists will give you a brief insight into what 2018 has offered musically for the electronic music landscape. The drive behind each name listed is undeniable, which is why they’ll only be looking to capitalise on last year’s achievements for the forthcoming months.
