The Dallas Mavericks’ injury struggles continue as Kyrie Irving suffered an injury – a left knee sprain in Monday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings.
The injury occurred in the first quarter, when Irving drove to the basket, was fouled by DeMar DeRozan, and landed awkwardly on Kings’ center Jonas Valanciunas’ foot. Immediately clutching his knee, Irving stayed down for several minutes before getting up to take his free throws. Despite the pain, he made both shots before being helped back to the locker room. He did not return for the rest of the game.
What We Know So Far
After the game, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd described the injury as “unlucky”, but provided no details on the severity. The team has yet to release an official statement on Irving’s condition, but an MRI is expected to determine the extent of the damage.
This injury adds to a long list of setbacks for the Mavericks this season. Anthony Davis, who was acquired in the Luka Doncic trade, is already sidelined with a groin injury suffered in his first game with the team. With Irving now potentially missing time, Dallas’ chances of a playoff push are looking increasingly difficult.
Irving had scored seven points in nine minutes before exiting the game. He has been averaging 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game this season.
Mavericks in Trouble?
The Mavericks fell to 32-30 after a 122-98 blowout loss to the Kings, keeping them locked in the 10th seed in the Western Conference. The team has already struggled with injuries this season, and losing Irving for an extended period could be a major blow to their postseason hopes.
Adding to the tough night, the team also announced an 8.5% increase in season ticket prices for next season, news that fans are not taking lightly considering the Mavericks’ current struggles.

The Mavericks will be monitoring Irving’s status closely, but it’s clear they need to get healthy fast if they want to remain competitive. With a tough stretch of games ahead, the team is hoping for a quick recovery for their star guard.
The big question: How long will Kyrie Irving be out? The answer could determine whether the Mavericks can stay in the playoff race, or if their season is in jeopardy.
