Stranger Things fans, brace yourselves—this might sting a little. The Duffer Brothers just confirmed that the upcoming fifth season of Stranger Things will be the final goodbye for Eleven, Mike, Dustin, and the rest of Hawkins.

No sequels, no spinoffs, no Steve and Dustin road trip series (we know, we’re sad too).

“This Story Is Done”

During their SCAD TVfest panel, Matt and Ross Duffer made it clear: Season 5 is the end of the road for our beloved characters. While Netflix would probably love to milk more content out of its biggest sci-fi hit, the Duffers aren’t having it.

“This story, these characters’ stories, that’s done,” Matt Duffer said. “That whole story is coming to an end. There’s not like a Steve/Dustin spinoff or something like that.”

Well, that settles that.

No More Hawkins—But Maybe More Stranger Things?

Now, before you go full Upside Down-level devastation, there’s still a little hope. While the current cast won’t be returning, the Duffer brothers haven’t ruled out exploring the world of Stranger Things in some way. That could mean new characters, new settings, or even an entirely different time period.

They also have their hands full with the upcoming Broadway play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which dives into Hawkins’ past.

Fan Reactions: Denial, Grief, and Conspiracy Theories

Fans, of course, aren’t taking this well. Twitter/X exploded with reactions ranging from “This has to be a misdirect” to “I refuse to believe the Steve/Dustin bromance is over.” Others are convinced the Duffers are just playing coy until Netflix waves a big enough check in front of them.

The Final Season—What’s Next?

Season 5 is still shrouded in mystery, but we know one thing: it’s going to be emotional. Filming is finally underway, and if past seasons are any indication, we’re in for some heartbreak, big reveals, and probably another Hawkins-level disaster.

So, while it looks like this is truly the end for Eleven and the gang, Stranger Things has never been predictable. Who knows? Maybe the Upside Down has one last twist waiting for us.

Would you watch a Stranger Things spinoff if it had a brand-new cast? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
