Who’s in, Who’s Out? Everything We Learned from the Thunderbolts Trailer

Marvel just dropped the first trailer for Thunderbolts, and let’s just say—it’s nothing like your typical superhero team-up.

Gone are the golden-era Avengers; in their place, we get a crew of misfits, assassins, and morally questionable anti-heroes trying to fill the void.

The Plot—What We Know So Far

Set to premiere on May 2, 2025, Thunderbolts throws together some of the MCU’s most unpredictable characters. Led by John Walker (U.S. Agent), the team includes familiar faces like Yelena Belova, Alexei (Red Guardian), Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier), and a few others with questionable loyalties.

The twist? The Avengers are out of the picture, and the world needs new “heroes” to step up. But these aren’t the poster boys and girls of righteousness. The trailer teases plenty of internal conflict, backstabbing, and a looming external threat that forces them to work together—whether they like it or not.

The Big Bad—Meet Sentry and The Void

The internet is already buzzing about the trailer’s biggest reveal: Sentry as the main antagonist. For those unfamiliar, Sentry is often compared to Marvel’s Superman—but with one terrifying twist. He’s incredibly powerful, nearly invincible, but comes with a darker alter ego: The Void. The trailer hints that The Void will play a major role, meaning things are about to get messy.

The Action Looks Brutal

Unlike the glossy, CGI-heavy battles we’ve seen in past Marvel flicks, Thunderbolts seems to embrace a grittier, more grounded combat style. Bucky and Yelena’s fight sequences look straight out of a high-octane spy thriller, while Red Guardian’s strength gets put to the test in ways we haven’t seen before.

The Score—Son Lux Brings the Heat

One of the biggest surprises? Son Lux (the geniuses behind Everything Everywhere All At Once) is handling the score. Expect eerie, tension-packed music that elevates the dark, unpredictable tone of the movie.

Fan Reactions—Excitement or Skepticism?

As expected, the internet is divided. Some fans are thrilled to see the MCU leaning into morally gray storytelling, while others worry this might feel like “Discount Suicide Squad”. With Marvel’s recent track record being hit-or-miss, there’s cautious optimism surrounding Thunderbolts.

Will Thunderbolts breathe new life into the MCU, or is it another gamble that may or may not pay off? We’ll find out when the film hits theaters on May 2, 2025. Until then, the Thunderbolts trailer has given us plenty to dissect, and one thing’s for sure—this isn’t your typical Marvel team-up.
