Valeria Croft is one of Finland’s finest deep tech/minimal artists and her first release of 2023 comes via Canadian record label, Suleiman.

Suleiman’s back catalogue includes tracks and remixes by the likes of Cesare vs Disorder, Robert Babicz and Kris Wadsworth. Alongside two original tracks by Valeria Croft, this release also features a remix from The Mekanism.

Based in Paris, The Mekanism is well-respected within the deep tech/minimal scene as both a producer and DJ. He is regularly booked to play DJ sets at prestigious events across Europe and his music has also been released by labels ranging from Robsoul Recordings to Moan.

The EP’s title track “Thankful” opens the release with shuffling percussion and twinkling melodies underpinned by snare rolls and a tight kick drum. Its trippy vocals and bleeping textures add to the murky atmosphere of this techy production.,

Next is The Mekanism’s remix of Thankful and it’s a masterful rework that keeps the original’s vocal, but works in some new percussion and a chopped-up string sample. It’s a thick set version with powerful energy and deep atmosphere.

Affectionate is last of the tracks and its gliding synth fills the track with rippling waves of sound that are accompanied by softly spoken vocals. It’s a soothing track with a mesmerising sound that is carried forth by flowing percussion.
