Kim Kardashian just dropped a jaw-dropping truth bomb about her whirlwind 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, and it’s got fans reeling. Turns out, the massive 18-karat diamond ring he proposed with? She mostly paid for it herself.
On the latest episode of The Kardashians, Kim, 44, took a nostalgic look at her past engagement rings. When she got to the one from Humphries, she casually revealed: “I didn’t keep that. I was pregnant with North, still married to him, and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring.”
But here’s the real kicker, Kim says Humphries only paid for a fifth of it. That’s right, despite the ring’s estimated $2 million value, the NBA player allegedly only contributed a small fraction before demanding it back in their divorce.
“Jesus,” hairstylist Chris Appleton reacted when he heard the story. Kim agreed, calling it a savage move, but admitted she kinda wishes she still had the ring: “I would’ve loved a collection.”
Jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz, who was also present, told Kim it was probably a good thing she didn’t keep it. But the reality star couldn’t help but reflect on the absurdity of the situation.
Fans know that Kim’s marriage to Humphries in 2011 was short-lived, lasting only 72 days before she filed for divorce. Over the years, she’s admitted she felt pressured to go through with the wedding because of how much of a spectacle it had become on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
“I thought, ‘Okay, we’re filming this for a TV show. If I leave, I’m going to be known as the runaway bride forever.’ So I went through with it,” she once said.
Even though she rarely speaks about her brief marriage, Kim couldn’t help but joke about it when Khloé Kardashian mentioned reconnecting with her own ex-husband, Lamar Odom. “Should I call Kris Humphries?” she teased.
