Union Demands a Historic Contract

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien stated, “Our members have spoken loud and clear—Costco must deliver a fair contract, or they’ll be held accountable.” He warned that if the wholesale giant fails to reach an agreement by January 31, the workers will strike.

The union is pushing for “fair wages and benefits” reflective of Costco’s financial success. According to Teamsters, the company reported $254 billion in annual revenue and $7.4 billion in net profits, a 135% increase since 2018. Despite these record gains, the union claims Costco executives have resisted meeting their demands.

Practice Pickets and Worker Solidarity

In preparation for the potential strike, Costco workers across the country have been holding practice pickets. These demonstrations, spanning locations from Hayward, California, to Sumner, Washington, and Long Island, New York, have showcased the resolve of the Teamsters members.

“We are the backbone of Costco,” said Bryan Fields, a Baltimore Costco worker and member of Teamsters Local 570. “We drive its success and generate its profits. We hope the company will step up and do right by us, but if they don’t, that’s on them. The company will be striking itself.”
