Still riding the high of featuring on powerful trio Noisia’s last ever album Closer, Beatport’s NEXT artist 2021 IMANU announces his own highly anticipated album Unfold with single ‘Temper’ feat. LIA in his fourth release on the label Deadbeats.
The song follows previous singles Somehow We Lost It All alongside Pham and josh pan, and It’s Our Destiny with SOPHIE collaborator KUČKA, which gained support from BBC Radio 1, Alison Wonderland, and legendary Youtube channel MrSuicideSheep.
The Rotterdam-based producer has been challenging gender stereotypes and blending genres in dance music since the beginning of the pandemic, collaborating with kindred unclassifiable spirits Sleepnet, Mefjus, and Buunshin and remixing for the likes of Skrillex, Camo & Krooked, What So Not, TOKiMONSTA, and Apashe, land major Spotify playlists such as creamy, House Hits 2022, and Bootshaus, and release on respected labels mau5trap, UKF, Deadbeats, VISION, Never Say Die, Critical, Invisible, Renegade Hardware, and RAM.
Known for his ethereal and emotive storytelling abilities, IMANU has made waves in the industry through releases such as Im Fine, a remix for Apashe, High Klassified, Cherry Lena that gathered over 6 M streams on Spotify or single-A Taste of Hope, which amassed over 1M streams and radio support from KISS Nights and BBC Radio 1. His recent releases with fellow Skrillex collaborator Josh Pan, Neiges, and La Fournaise, maintained top 10 Beatport chart positions for over a week straight, one of his 6 #10 Beatport tracks in the past 12 months alone.
Featuring vocalist LIA is an American singer-songwriter based in Montreal with support from COLORS x Studios, Dummy Magazine, and Samsung, MTV, and Netflix syncs already under her belt. Frequent collaborator with the likes of Apashe and Thomas White, LIA contributes a whirlwind of poetic lyricism and sultry tones to Temper.
Cementing an exciting new era, ‘Temper’ feat. LIA sets the tone for IMANU’s debut album. The producer describes the process behind Unfold,
“Almost three years after starting with IMANU, I now feel it’s time to release my first album. During these past years, it feels like I have evolved my style, letting go of genres and creating my own sound, and this album feels like a cumulation of that. Right from the start, I wanted this album to make sense in both club and listening settings.
Over these last few years I have slowly been moving towards a more expressive style of music, taking inspiration from all sorts of genres and emotions and everything I’ve had the privilege of taking in whilst travelling around the globe.
One thing I learned is that there are a lot of different moving parts with releasing an album, which, at times, can be a bit stressful. But now that the news is out there, I’m mostly excited to see what people are going to think about the music.”
Now foreshadowing the unparalleled sound of the album, out on September 16th, ascending talent IMANU provides his signature diamond rhythms and heavenly basslines with the aid of LIA ’s hypnotic vocals in Temper. Graceful and emotional, IMANU’s latest single is a testament to his ability to weave between various electronic styles in a single song.
