
Reggae singer Cocoa Tea, known for hits like Rocking Dolly and Israel’s King, has died at 65, his wife, Malvia Scott, confirmed that he passed away early Tuesday morning at a hospital in Broward, Florida, after suffering a cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
What Happened?
Cocoa Tea, whose real name was Colvin Scott, had been battling lymphoma since 2019 and had also been dealing with pneumonia for the last six months. According to his wife, he was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe vomiting.
“He was definitely very brave,” Malvia shared. “Even in the hospital, he told me not to worry. He was always hopeful.”
Final Days
Cocoa Tea hadn’t performed live in three years, with his last major appearance being on the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise. Despite his health struggles, he remained optimistic, but his condition took a turn for the worse in recent weeks.
Reaction to His Death
Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Olivia Grange, reacted to the news, saying she was “very saddened” by his passing. “He has been a staple in the industry for so long. One of the greatest reggae singers who ever lived.”

Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, Cocoa Tea made a name for himself in the 1980s with hits like I Lost My Sonia and Weh Dem A Go Do. He was known for his smooth vocals and conscious lyrics, earning a strong fanbase worldwide.
He is survived by his wife, Malvia, and eight children.
