Swiss singer-songwriter Sylvia G shares her compelling new single ‘I’m Drowning’, out now on all streaming platforms. The track is the fourth single to be taken from her upcoming sixth studio album ‘Brand New Day’, set for release in early 2022.
We caught up with her to learn more about how this single came about, her creative process and more.
Aditya – Hey Sylvia! Glad to have you for the interview. How’s 2021 been for you so far?
Sylvia G – Hey, thanks for having me. 2021 has been creative…and stressful.
Aditya – Your latest song ‘I’m Drowning’ is out, what’s the creative process of the track like?
Sylvia G – We wrote the song in July 2021. I felt overwhelmed and saddened by the lack of respect for this planet. All these decisions are taking way too long.
I just released a new single, ”I’m Free.“
Aditya – What’s your message behind this track?
Sylvia G – The need to respect nature, a wake up call, sadness. We need a fundamental shift in our values and empathy. There is a serious lack of empathy today.
Aditya – How do you begin writing songs, do you pen it down or start over on instrument?
Sylvia G – I pen it down
Aditya – Your 6th album comes out in early 2022, would you like to share some insights on that?
Sylvia G – I am releasing the album as an independent artist, so let’s see.
Aditya – Who are your biggest influences and why?
Sylvia G – Different musical genres, sounds, countries. From rock to pop to jazz.
Georges Michael, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, David Bowie, the pretenders, Garbage, Lucio Dalla, Madonna, The Script, Chambao… The list is long. I’m stopping here:)
Aditya – You have a massive discography, which is your favorite track and why?
Sylvia G – Some of the tracks I recorded under ”Milow the girl “ : Beautiful World , Secrets ,El corazon. More recently: Brand new day , SOS remix ,Drowning and I’m Free.
Aditya – What’s your band setup like?
Sylvia G – Under Milow the Girl, the band was a guitarist, bassist, pianist and drummer. Now, as Sylvia G, I work mainly with session musicians.
Aditya – Where were you amid the global pandemic and how did you spend your time?
Sylvia G – I was in Switzerland a lot. It was definitely a year of reflection. Deciding what’s important and what’s not. I spend my time recording the tracks for my new album to be released in january 2022. I also published a book.
Aditya – Lastly, what do you look forward to in 2022?
Sylvia G – L´amour toujours l´amour.
No, seriously I do not know what the future holds but I would like to tour, i miss it. Why not create a new band?
