Avicii’s family has confirmed that a posthumous Avicii album called ‘Tim’, will be released later this year.

The title is a clear reference to the late producer’s real name, Tim Bergling – and it is due to be released on 6 June, with the new single ‘SOS’ dropping on 10 April.

A statement from his family said:

“When Tim Bergling passed away on April 20, 2018, he was close to completing a new album.

“He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music.

“The songwriters that Tim was collaborating with on this album have continued the process to get as close to his vision as possible.

“Since Tim’s passing, the family decided not to keep the music locked away – instead they wanted to share it with his fans all around the world.

“The single ‘SOS’ will be released on April 10 and the album, titled ‘TIM’, on June 6.

“All proceeds from the album will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, the new non-profit organisation set up in Avicii’s name to help treat mental illness and prevent suicide, which his family launched at the end of March.”

“Tim wanted to make a difference,” the family said at the time of the foundation’s launch.

“Starting a foundation in his name is our way to honour his memory and continue to act in his spirit.”

It’s been roughly a year since Avicii’s death, and the announcement of the album, will only serve to strengthen his legacy.
