Ashlee Simpson has nothing but praise for her legendary mother-in-law Diana Ross, calling her “so hands-on” when it comes to being a grandmother.
The 40-year-old singer and reality TV personality, who married Evan Ross, the son of the iconic Diana Ross, in 2014, opened up about their close-knit family life and what it’s like having a music legend as grandma to her kids.
In a recent chat with E! News, Ashlee said, “She’s the best one! So hands-on, and you wouldn’t think of it like that. She’s just about family.” Diana, known for her glamorous persona and hit songs like Chain Reaction, apparently brings the same energy and love to her role as grandma.
Ashlee and Evan share two children: Jagger Snow, 8, and Ziggy Blu, 3. Ashlee also has a 15-year-old son, Bronx Mowgli, from her previous marriage to Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz. And with Diana Ross in the picture, the entire family dynamic is full of music, love, and style.
Speaking of style, Ashlee teased that she may be digging into Diana’s iconic wardrobe for her upcoming Las Vegas show. “I would love to steal anything,” she joked. “Any time she’s given me anything I’m like, ‘Oh my God, this is the most beautiful piece!’ Her archive is beyond insane, so anything she’s willing to give me I’ll put on for good luck.”
Diana has clearly left a mark not only as a music icon but as a mom and grandmother who inspires her family. “We’ve seen her in Vegas so many times, she’s always inspired me. She’s a mom, she keeps it all together, she’s a grandma, she’s Diana Ross!”
Ashlee also shared what family holidays are like in the Ross household, describing them as chaotic in the best way. “They are [lit], the kids have so many cousins. We’re all in one home, everyone’s playing, the kids are all together. No one ever wants to leave.”
Even after more than ten years of marriage, Ashlee and Evan are still very much in love. “He’s my best friend,” she said, clearly proud of the life they’ve built together. At the same time, her bond with sister Jessica Simpson continues to be a major part of her support system.
“We definitely know how to overcome those things, and not harp on them, and not look back, and move forward,” she explained. “We always have the best time together. Nobody knows you better than your sibling, you don’t even have to say anything, you just get it.”
Between family, fashion, music, and motherhood, Ashlee Simpson is balancing it all, with a little help and a lot of inspiration from Diana Ross.
