Carole King Calls Taylor Swift A True Inspiration

Carole King is showing some major love to Taylor Swift, and honestly, who can blame her? After Taylor dropped the bombshell that she officially owns the rights to her entire early discography, yes, all of it, Carole couldn’t stay silent.

The legendary singer-songwriter took to Instagram to call Taylor an “inspiration,” posting a photo of the pop star with her hands in the air and writing, “You continue to inspire!” with heart and music note emojis. For anyone who’s followed both artists, this moment hits deep. Carole King praises Taylor Swift not just as a fan, but as a fellow powerhouse in music who knows how much this kind of victory means.

On Friday, May 30, Taylor Swift made the announcement Swifties have been waiting for: she finally owns every bit of her early work. That includes the albums Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation. For Taylor, this wasn’t just a business win, it was the emotional closure of a fight that started back in 2019 when Scooter Braun bought her former label Big Machine Records and, with it, her master recordings.

The situation got messier when Scooter sold those masters to Shamrock Capital in 2020, which didn’t sit right with Taylor. Instead of folding, she came back swinging with the now-iconic “Taylor’s Versions,” re-recording and re-releasing her early work to take back control in the only way she could. But now, she doesn’t just have Taylor’s Versions. She owns everything. The masters. The album art. The unreleased tracks. The concert films. Every single piece of her legacy. And Carole King was right there to cheer her on.

Taylor’s own reaction to the news was pure emotion. In a long post on her website, she said, “I’m trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow… I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”

She called it her “greatest dream come true” and gave props to Shamrock Capital for giving her the opportunity to finally reclaim her work after two decades of chasing what always felt just out of reach.

This isn’t the first time Taylor and Carole have shared admiration for each other. Back in 2021, Taylor was the one who inducted Carole King into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, gushing over how her music shaped her childhood and her career. “Carole taught artists like me that telling your own story is worth the work and struggle it takes to earn the opportunity for your story to be heard,” Taylor said during the ceremony.

It’s a full-circle moment. Carole King praises Taylor Swift now in the same way Taylor once praised her. Two generations of songwriters, two icons who never gave up telling their own stories, even when the system tried to silence them. Taylor’s win isn’t just hers. It’s a win for every artist who’s ever fought for control of their voice and their art.

With this powerful co-sign from Carole King, Taylor’s latest achievement feels even bigger. It’s not just about contracts and ownership papers. It’s about legacy, resilience, and the kind of inspiration that echoes across decades.
