Erika Frantzve Kirk is navigating unbearable grief following the tragic death of her husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Just one day after the 31-year-old was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University, President Donald Trump shared an update on Erika’s condition.
Speaking to reporters on Sept. 11, Trump revealed, “She’s absolutely devastated,” according to CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins. Erika, who shares two young children with Charlie, a 3-year-old daughter and a 15-month-old son whose names have not been made public, has not yet issued her own statement. However, she has remained in touch with the president amid the tragedy.
Charlie was delivering remarks at an event on the Orem, Utah, campus when gunfire erupted. A shooter, positioned in a building roughly 200 yards from the scene, opened fire, striking Kirk. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but Trump later confirmed that Kirk had died from his injuries. As of now, no suspect is in custody in connection with the attack.
In the wake of his sudden passing, tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum and beyond. Former President Barack Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris, actor Chris Pratt, and reality star Savannah Chrisley are among those who have honored Kirk’s legacy.
Savannah, who was both a longtime friend and an active member of Kirk’s conservative youth group Turning Point USA, shared a heartbreaking message on Instagram. “I can’t believe I’m even writing these words. Charlie Kirk changed my life… he brought me into the Turning Point family this past year, and I was supposed to be standing next to him at every college this October. Instead, I sit here with a broken heart, devastated beyond words.”
This isn’t my strong suit and I don’t even know how to begin to put into words the loss I am feeling right now over the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Charlie wasn’t just a friend — he was like a little brother to me – and to millions of people around the world – he was a true…

Donald Trump Jr. also reflected on his close relationship with Kirk, describing him as more than a political ally. “Charlie wasn’t just a friend, he was like a little brother to me, and to millions of people around the world,” he wrote in a statement posted to X on Sept. 10. “He was a true inspiration.”
Calling Kirk’s death “horrible” and “heartbreaking,” Trump Jr. added, “We’ve lost a leader, a fighter, and a man whose character and conviction were rare. Too rare. To think that his life was cut short by a brutal, heinous, evil act is beyond comprehension.”
As Erika grieves privately with her children, Charlie’s loss is being felt on a national scale, remembered not only as a political figure but also as a husband, father, and friend whose impact reached far beyond politics.
