Chrissy Teigen Says She’s Drinking Again and Feels Lost

Chrissy Teigen is once again proving she’s not afraid to get brutally honest with her followers.

The 39-year-old model and cookbook author just revealed she’s no longer sober, four years after she gave up drinking, and it’s not a proud moment for her. In fact, Chrissy openly admitted she’s confused, disappointed, and struggling to find her footing again.

Back in December 2020, she made the decision to quit alcohol after a close friend and doctor recommended the book Quit Like A Woman by Holly Whitaker. It changed everything for her. She felt healthier, more productive, and proud of who she was becoming without booze. But now, things have shifted again, and she’s being open about that too.

In a post promoting an upcoming podcast with Holly, Chrissy came clean about her current reality. “The truth is, I don’t know what I’m doing,” she wrote. The post wasn’t polished or filtered. It was raw, filled with emotion, and painfully relatable. She talked about how alcohol crept back into her life and how deeply she feels like she’s let people down, especially those who told her her story inspired them to rethink drinking.

She didn’t hold back. “I one hundred percent know I like me better sober,” she said. “I one hundred percent know I get more done. I absolutely feel better in my body without it.” But that knowledge alone isn’t always enough. Chrissy admitted she hates that she can’t just have a drink with her husband on vacation without it spiraling into something that makes her feel awful the next day.

There’s a deep frustration in her words, especially when she describes the exhausting cycle of feeling like she needs alcohol in social settings and then regretting it afterward. “I’m tired of throwing up on a Tuesday,” she shared. “I hate that the thought of maybe having a drink can consume me some days.”

She even acknowledged how simple it might sound to outsiders, just stop drinking, right? But for her, and for many others, it’s not that black and white. “So your rational mind is probably like, ‘OK THEN STOP, B****!’ and god, do I f****** AGREE!” she wrote.

Despite everything, she hasn’t completely lost sight of the progress she made. Chrissy talked about the moments that remind her sobriety is worth it, being fully present at her kids’ birthday parties, skipping out on absinthe at the Ren Faire, and enjoying concerts completely sober. These might seem small, but for her, they’re big wins. They’re proof that she can still have joy without alcohol in the mix.

What’s clear is that her relationship with drinking is complicated, and she knows it. “It just isn’t normal and never will be,” she said. And instead of hiding that struggle, she’s sharing it openly with millions of followers who may be dealing with the exact same thing.

Her post ends on a powerful note, one that acknowledges the ups and downs of sobriety without shame. “Thank you for allowing me to figure it out openly in front of you all,” she wrote. “To the sober community, God, I am still so, so proud of you.”

Holly Whitaker, whose book helped launch Chrissy’s sobriety journey, reposted her message and praised her for being brave enough to talk about the reality of relapse. She pointed out that Chrissy’s story is far more reflective of what recovery actually looks like than the tidy, all-or-nothing stories we’re used to hearing.

It’s a process. It’s messy. And it doesn’t always come with a perfect ending. But Chrissy’s willingness to talk about it publicly makes space for others who are trying to figure it out too.
