David Beckham’s Knighthood Leaves Mum in Tears During Emotional Lunch

Sir David Beckham has officially been knighted, and while fans across the world celebrated, it was his mother, Sandra Beckham, who couldn’t hold back tears during a simple lunch at Tony’s Pie and Mash in London.

On Friday, June 13, 2025, the football legend was included in the King’s Birthday Honours, receiving a knighthood for his services to sport and charity. It’s a milestone moment in his career, and Beckham took to Instagram to share the deeply emotional reaction from his mum.

Beckham wrote, “Lunch with Mum, haven’t seen her since the news… Mum cried when she arrived, cried during lunch and cried when I was leaving x special moment for us all. Love you mum x @sandra_beckham49 (Dad’s next) (sic)”

Sandra, visibly moved by her son’s new title, commented under the post: “Love you more… was emotional people saying congratulations Sir… see tears again (sic).”

While many might expect a lavish celebration, David opted for a nostalgic, low-key meal with his mum – a gesture reflecting his grounded nature despite the fanfare. The location, Tony’s Pie and Mash, added a touch of personal history and comfort to the day.

His wife, Victoria Beckham, also shared her heartfelt pride in an Instagram tribute that quickly gained attention. She wrote, “You’ve always been my knight in shining armour, but now it’s official. Sir @davidbeckham!!! What an honour, I couldn’t be prouder of you.”

Victoria continued, praising his dedication to country, family, and causes close to his heart. “The way you’ve touched so many lives over the years with kindness and humility speaks volumes about the man you are and continues to inspire us every day… I’m so, so proud to call you mine.”

David Beckham has long been a household name, not just for his achievements on the pitch with Manchester United and England but for his unwavering commitment to philanthropy. From his role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to numerous charitable initiatives, the recognition goes beyond football.

This isn’t his first brush with royal honours. Back in 2003, he was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to football. But being officially knighted – and becoming “Sir David Beckham” – cements his legacy in British public life.

The honour means his wife is now “Lady Victoria Beckham,” and their children – Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper – get to witness their father’s continued impact beyond sport.

With humble roots, international fame, and now a knighthood, David Beckham’s journey has come full circle. And perhaps nothing says “mission accomplished” more than making your mum cry happy tears over pie and mash.
