The legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has just become even more dramatic, as Marvel Studios, embroiled in the ongoing legal tangle, is now seeking complete removal from the case.
The conflict, stemming from Justin’s accusations that Ryan Reynolds created the Deadpool & Wolverine character “Nicepool” to “bully” him, took another twist on April 25.
In a letter submitted to Judge Lewis J. Liman, Marvel asked the court to quash the subpoena that Justin’s company, Wayfarer Parties, had issued. The letter also demanded that Marvel’s confidential documents remain protected and that any return dates related to subpoenas be delayed until after Ryan Reynolds’ motion to dismiss is addressed. Basically, Marvel is trying to distance itself from the drama.
Justin’s legal team, however, isn’t backing down. They filed their own letter in response, accusing Marvel of refusing to engage in good faith during a phone call on April 7 to resolve these issues. According to Justin’s lawyers, Marvel’s team cut the conversation short, halting any further discussions about confidentiality and relevance. This back-and-forth is only making the case more intense.
The origins of this legal conflict go back to January, when Justin’s attorneys sent a formal litigation letter to Bob Iger, president of The Walt Disney Company, and Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. They requested all documents mentioning Justin, as well as any evidence showing that the creation of the Nicepool character was an intentional attempt to mock, harass, or bully him. The drama continues to unfold as both parties fight over what role the character really played in the legal skirmish.
Amidst the legal battle, Blake Lively made a rare public comment about the whole situation. During the 2025 TIME100 Gala, Blake hinted at having a lot to say but chose not to discuss it publicly at that moment. As the battle drags on, the trial date has been set for March 2026, meaning we could be in for a prolonged legal saga before any resolutions are made.
