Miley Cyrus just released a tragic new ballad titled “More To Lose,” which reflects on her relationship with a past love. Fans were quick to speculate that the “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” crooner was referring to her ex-husband and longtime partner Liam Hemsworth throughout the track.
Hemsworth and Cyrus met while starring in the Nicholas Sparks film, “The Last Song.” Since pairing up for the film project back in 2010, the celebrities shared an on-again-off-again romance for nearly a decade onward. Eventually, they tied the knot in 2018. Unfortunately, love wasn’t enough for the couple, ultimately leading to Cyrus and Hemsworth divorcing in 2019.
Although the “Wrecking Ball” singer has since moved on into a new relationship with drummer Maxx Marando, the lyrics for her latest ballad are extremely telling about her past romance.
Is there a chance she is harboring some regret over her divorce from Liam Hemsworth?
Miley Cyrus’s ‘More To Lose’ Offers Insight Into Her Feelings For Ex-Husband Liam Hemsworth
In the Hannah Montana alum’s latest hit, the singer reflects on her ex-partner, which seems to be Liam Hemsworth. Most recently, the artist performed the song in front of a live audience, including Hemsworth, who listened to her sing in awe.
She explained to the audience before singing,” “I have a lot of people who I’ve known and love for a very long time in this room… even a couple of exes.” The camera then pans to Hemsworth, who watches Cyrus from the audience.
In Cyrus’s new song, her lyrics hint at a lingering emotional attachment to Hemsworth.
“I thought it over
And it was plain to see
the love you said
You once needed
Could just not come from me
And now it’s over
Both of us free
And I feel colder.”
Cyrus proceeds to sing about how both she and Hemsworth have moved on to “new beginnings,” yet she still looks back at her former relationship with a sense of hope.
She sings,
“And now we’re moving to new beginnings
But as we move we looked once behind
To see what we might find out.”
The ‘Flowers’ Crooner is Able To Find ‘Magic’ Following Her Divorce From The ‘Hunger Games’ Star
While Miley Cyrus’s lyrics in “More To Lose” suggest an ache for her ex-husband, she said in a recent interview that despite how hard the divorce was, she’s still able to find beauty out of the tragic situation.
During an interview with Spotify, the “Flowers” singer recalled the tragic burning of her Malibu home back in 2018. Yet the aftermath of the fire gave her some telling insight on how to let go of the materials, as well as the relationships, that had also “burned down.”
Cyrus explained (per People,) “When my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down, and that just led me to such magic and to have so much gratitude. I would’ve told my younger self to appreciate those darker times because, like I said, they are only leading you into the light.”
Fans can anticipate Miley Cyrus’s new album, “Something Beautiful “on May 30th, 2025.
