Dropout Kings Frontman Adam Ramey Dies at Just 32

The music world is reeling after news broke that Adam Ramey, lead singer of rap-metal band Dropout Kings, has died at the age of 32.

His bandmates confirmed the tragic news on Monday, May 19, through a heartfelt post on social media, though they chose not to reveal the cause of death. The sudden loss has left fans devastated and the band grieving deeply.

In their statement, Dropout Kings called Adam more than just a bandmate, he was their brother. “Life comes at you in ways you can never predict,” they wrote. “Adam’s spirit, charisma, and energy will not only forever inspire us but will push us into the future to be the best that we can. Thank you for everything, Chip. Rest in power, Adam. We’ll always love you, fam.”

Adam was a founding force behind Dropout Kings when the band started back in 2016. Originally going by the name Phoenix Down, the group quickly evolved into a powerful presence in the rap-metal scene, with Adam at the helm as their frontman. His vocals drove the energy of both their albums, AudioDope and Riot Music, which helped cement their place in the genre.

He was more than a performer, Adam was the soul of the band. His passion and love for music didn’t just shape Dropout Kings’ sound; it impacted everyone around him. That same intensity extended into his personal life as well.

Adam was also a devoted father, something he shared openly and emotionally on Instagram. His final post showed a photo of his young son along with a message that read, “Praise to the most high, thankful for all my blessings and grateful for this family and life of mine. Happy Easter, everybody.”

In 2024, after finishing a successful European and UK tour, Adam wrote one of his most personal reflections. “Back at home from this amazing EU/UK run. Finally reunited with the lights of my life,” he shared. “It brings tears to my eyes putting everything into perspective of how far I’ve come. Life can be terrifying and brutal. But, it can also be the most gratifying and beautiful thing too.”

He continued that post by confronting his past head-on. “I’ve made so many mistakes in my life. But I truly wouldn’t change a thing, especially the terrible parts. Be thankful for the bad things. It brought me here and made me who I am now as I write this. And for once, I can actually say that I like this person.”

The post ended with a message that resonates even more deeply now: “All I want for my son is for him to be a good man. I don’t care what he does. He just needs to be that, and I’ll always be proud.”

Adam’s final live performance took place in February 2024 at the Orpheum in Tampa, Florida. At the time of his death, the Dropout Kings still had tour dates listed on their website for the months ahead. The group rose to national attention in 2021 when their track “Virus” broke into the Top 40 of Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart, a major moment for the band.

Outside of music, Adam also ran a company called PUSH Digital Marketing. He managed to balance a career that spanned creativity and business, bringing the same determination to both.

His death has left a huge hole in the hearts of fans, family, and friends. The band, though devastated, has made it clear that Adam’s memory will drive them forward. They’re committed to honoring the legacy he helped build, not just in their music, but in the lives he touched along the way.
