Emma Stone Reveals the Real Reason She Joined Eddington

Emma Stone has revealed that her biggest motivation for joining the cast of Eddington was getting the chance to work with director Ari Aster.

The 36-year-old actress, known for her award-winning performances and distinct on-screen presence, stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, and Pedro Pascal in the new comedy-drama.

Speaking to Extra, Emma didn’t hesitate to name Ari Aster as the main draw for her. “Honestly, I loved the script, but the biggest draw for me was Ari,” she said. “I love Ari’s other films. I like him so much as a person and had gotten to know him for years before this, and so when he asked me if I wanted to be a part of it, I just said yes because I really, really wanted to work with Ari.”

Fans know Aster best for his genre-defining horror films Hereditary and Midsommar, and Eddington marks a new direction for both him and Emma. Despite the change in tone, Emma didn’t hesitate. When asked if she’d collaborate with him again, her answer was instant: “I would love to, if he’ll have me.”

Emma also shared her experience working with the film’s impressive cast. While she was excited to be part of such a stacked lineup, she admitted she didn’t actually get to film any scenes with Pedro Pascal. “I didn’t get to work with him. You’ll see in the movie, we don’t get to intersect, but I’ve gotten to hang out with him outside of it, so it feels like it all evened out,” she said.

Even though they didn’t share scenes, Emma is clearly a fan of Pedro. She’s already hyped for his upcoming role in Fantastic Four, saying, “Of course I’m gonna see Fantastic Four. That trailer? With the song Fantastic Four where they’re singing it? I mean, Pedro’s enough for me, but then we got that great song? I’m in.”

While Emma is now a household name, she hasn’t hidden the fact that her path hasn’t been easy. In a past interview with Rolling Stone, she opened up about intense anxiety that plagued her as a child. “My brain [was] naturally zooming 30 steps ahead to the worst-case scenario,” she said. “At a certain point, I couldn’t go to friends’ houses anymore   I could barely get out the door to school.”

Thankfully, therapy helped her find her way. One tool she used was imagining her anxiety as a green monster on her shoulder whispering lies. “If I listen to it enough, it crushes me. But if I turn my head and keep doing what I’m doing it shrinks and fades away.”

From battling anxiety to starring in major films with top-tier talent, Emma Stone continues to show the strength behind the spotlight.
