Florence Pugh is done pretending the word “ick” is harmless internet slang.
In a recent chat with Glamour UK, the Thunderbolts actress got super real about how much she hates the term, and honestly, she’s got a point. Sitting down with her co-star Lewis Pullman, Florence didn’t hold back when asked about social media trends, especially the use of “ick” to describe little things that turn people off in a relationship.
“I don’t like the term ‘ick. I don’t believe in it,” she said bluntly. “I think it’s really shit.” And she’s not just mad about the word itself, she’s over how it mostly gets thrown at men. “It only really associates with men, and I don’t like that either. People f*** up, and that’s absolutely fine.”
Florence, who started dating Peaky Blinders actor Finn Cole late last year, made it super clear she doesn’t see the point in getting weirded out by tiny human flaws. For her, it’s all about embracing the messy stuff too. Turning to Lewis, she added, “I don’t know your ick, and I don’t care about your ick, because I embrace all of you.”
Lewis jumped in to agree, saying he doesn’t really have any icks himself, and quickly switched gears by asking Florence who she’d want to play her in a biopic. Her answer? Basically a hard no. “I haven’t thought about that. That’s assuming I’ve thought about it. That’s assuming I think that I deserve one,” she said. “No way! There are plenty more important and more brilliant people that deserve a biopic. I can’t even speak.”
As the conversation lightened up, Florence shared her most-used emoji, and it might surprise you. “It’s changed over the years, but recently it’s the person doing a cartwheel. So cute. So effective for anything,” she said. Whether someone’s asking her out for lunch or if she’s done her laundry, she just sends the cartwheel emoji. “It’s honestly brilliant,” she laughed. “And then also the disco man.”
Florence has never been one to sugarcoat her thoughts, and this interview proves she’s still 100% herself, honest, quirky, and not afraid to call out society’s weird relationship habits. As far as she’s concerned, everyone’s got flaws, and trying to label them with a trendy buzzword just isn’t it.
