Is Sabrina Carpenter Set to Join the Mamma Mia Universe?

Sabrina Carpenter is being lined up for a major role in Mamma Mia! 3, and the buzz is getting real.

According to producer Judy Craymer, the 26-year-old singer and actress is being considered for a part that’s closely tied to Meryl Streep’s iconic character, Donna Sheridan, Carmichael.

“She’d be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep,” Craymer told Deadline. That one sentence has fans speculating wildly, especially since Sabrina has been vocal about her love for ABBA, performing some of their hits during her Short n’ Sweet tour.

Craymer, the mastermind behind the Mamma Mia! stage musical that launched in London’s West End back in 1999, revealed that there’s already a script in place for the third film. She’s confident the project is moving forward. “We know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen,” she said.

The original Mamma Mia! movie dropped in 2008 and became a global hit with a cast that included Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and Amanda Seyfried. It was followed by Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018, which brought even more star power to the screen.

Amanda Seyfried, who plays Donna’s daughter Sophie in the franchise, is all-in on the idea of Sabrina joining the cast, even if it means playing her daughter despite being just 13 years apart in age.

“You know what? Old age makeup for me. That’s what it will be,” Seyfried told ABC News last year. “If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen. It’s fine. I’m a big fan.”

At that point, Seyfried hadn’t seen a script yet but made it clear she’d return in a heartbeat. “Mamma Mia! 3, let’s go baby. Everybody says it’s gonna happen.”

Christine Baranski, another fan-favorite from the films, also hinted that things are in motion. “I was in London with Judy Craymer… she gave me the narrative plotline of how it’s going to happen. That’s all I can say!”

Baranski made it clear she believes Craymer has the power to reunite the star-studded cast. “She made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal hit,” Baranski said. “I wouldn’t put it past Judy Craymer to get everybody back together.”

With a ready script, a stacked legacy, and big names backing the idea, Mamma Mia! 3 feels closer than ever. And if Sabrina Carpenter signs on, it could bring a whole new generation of fans into the ABBA-fueled, sun-drenched universe.

One thing’s for sure: fans are ready to say “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” to this next chapter.
