Jelly Roll is getting brutally honest about one of the darkest moments in his life – the time he cheated on his wife, Bunnie Xo.
The country and hip-hop artist, known for his emotional storytelling, opened up about the affair during his appearance on the Human School Podcast on October 21, calling it “one of the worst moments of my adulthood.”
“I don’t talk about this publicly at all,” he began. “But one of the worst moments of my adulthood was when I had an affair on my wife.” The 40-year-old singer, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, shared that the decision to stray came from the influence of the people he surrounded himself with at the time.
“It was the first time that I was like, ‘I really can’t get this right at all. I know I’m in love with this woman,’” he continued. “It just really, really, really blew me back.”
Despite the pain, Jelly Roll revealed that the couple put in significant work to repair their relationship. “I did a lot of work to repair that relationship,” he said. “The repair has been special. And we’re stronger than we could have ever been.”
He admitted that while he wished their story had unfolded without an affair, he’s proud of where they are today. “I wish our story never had that chapter,” he confessed, “but I’m proud of who we are now.”
Jelly Roll, who shares daughter Bailee Ann, 17, and son Noah, 9, from previous relationships, acknowledged that his behavior mirrored the people around him. “I was hanging around a bunch of people that were cheating on their wives,” he said. “When I was doing cocaine, I was hanging around a bunch of people doing cocaine. When I was drinking a lot, I was hanging around a lot of people that were drinking a lot.”
He reflected on his tendency to hold on to toxic friendships out of loyalty, saying, “I used to be proud of long-standing friendships just because they had a number attached to them. Horrible humans. But I would just be proud to say, ‘That dude’s been with me 12 years.’”
Now, both Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alyssa DeFord, are intentional about surrounding themselves with people who uplift and inspire them. “I wanted to be friends with people I wanted to be like,” he shared.
While Bunnie has rarely addressed Jelly’s affair directly, she once hinted at it while reflecting on their brief 2018 breakup. In a 2024 TikTok post, she wrote, “Who knew that us breaking up in 2018, me moving back to Vegas & you coming to get me back – would have put us on this wild journey called life. We finally committed to each other & did everything we promised each other the first night in 2016.”
She continued with a heartfelt reflection on their journey, writing, “Our castle in the sand had to crumble so we could rebuild on solid ground. I yuh you so mushhh.”
Through pain, growth, and forgiveness, Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo have rebuilt their relationship from the ground up, turning one of the lowest points in their marriage into a testament of resilience and love.
