Disney officially announced that ‘Camp Rock 3’ is under production, leaving fans of the popular music franchise in a frenzy of excitement and nostalgia.
The news, shared on Wednesday, September 17, confirmed that production is underway in Vancouver with the Jonas Brothers revisiting their legendary roles.
Joe, Nick, and Kevin Jonas are taking on the roles of Shane, Nate, and Jason Gray, Connect 3’s original stars whom fans fell in love with back in 2008. In addition to returning in front of the camera, the brothers will also executive produce the new series, their increased investment in determining the franchise’s future. “It’s time to head back to camp,” Nick Jonas stated in the video announcement.
The plot for ‘Camp Rock 3’ will take Connect 3 as they go back to the campgrounds, but this time with a contest to find their next opening act. Almost ten years since the first two movies, the third installment seeks to capitalize on the success that made ‘Camp Rock’ one of Disney Channel’s most beloved brands, in addition to ‘High School Musical’ and ‘The Cheetah Girls’.
Demi Lovato, also a part of the original movies as Mitchie Torres, is also on board as an executive producer for the project. Although Disney has yet to officially confirm her return to acting in the sequel, fans have their fingers crossed as she remains connected to the franchise. Last month, Lovato appeared with the Jonas Brothers on stage at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium for an impromptu ‘Camp Rock’ reunion set during their Jonas20 anniversary tour, sparking rumors that she might be back on board.
Disney has also announced a number of cast members for ‘Camp Rock 3’. Back with the Jonas Brothers is Maria Canals-Barrera as Connie Torres. New members of the group are Liamani Segura as Sage, Hudson Stone as Desi, Lumi Pollack as Rosie, Malachi Barton as Fletch, Casey Trotter as Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as Callie, Ava Jean as Madison, and Sherry Cola as Lark.
The original ‘Camp Rock’ first aired in 2008 and was an immediate cultural phenomenon, bringing Lovato’s debut performance to the masses and solidifying the Jonas Brothers as Disney legends. Its follow-up, ‘Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam’, debuted in 2010 and featured even greater music-infused drama and crowd-pleasing performances.
This time around, viewers will not only get to see ‘Camp Rock 3’ on Disney Channel but also stream it on Disney+, guaranteeing more viewers for the much-awaited film. Although Disney has not yet announced an official premiere date, production commencing in September is a significant step towards the release of the movie.
With nostalgia in overdrive, the comeback of ‘Camp Rock’ with the Jonas Brothers – and potential Lovato return – has already made this one of the most buzzed Disney productions in years. For now, fans will have to hold on for more news, but one thing is for sure: another Final Jam is coming.
