Joseph Quinn is officially part of the biggest superhero crossover in the world: the MCU’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ And he’s calling it “very rewarding.”
The 31-year-old star, who will first appear as Johnny Storm (aka Human Torch) in the upcoming ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, opened up about his journey from newcomer to headline-making Avenger. In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Joseph Quinn said he was both relieved and thrilled that Marvel wanted the new Fantastic Four cast back for the Avengers saga.
“It’s very rewarding. It’s very relieving that they want us back for ‘Avengers’,” Quinn said. “We had a great time making ‘Fantastic Four’… and we’ve still got a little bit to do on it. They’re a wonderful gang of brilliant, wonderful actors. We all really mucked in and created a family environment.”
Alongside Quinn, the First Family includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, all of whom will also appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Marvel finally made the casting official, lifting the lid on months of speculation. And Quinn is glad he doesn’t have to keep it a secret anymore. “You never know with the MCU. So it’s nice that they want to have us back – it’s not like we’ve totally burnt it to the ground!”
‘First Steps’ is expected to reframe the Fantastic Four as grounded, character-first heroes, balancing cosmic threats (hi, Galactus and Silver Surfer) with complex family dynamics. Marvel veteran Paul Walter Hauser, who also stars in the film, recently hyped it up in a separate interview, calling it a “new tide of successful storytelling” for the MCU.
“I believe we are the Marvel movie of the year,” Hauser told TheDirect. “Everything I witnessed and took part in, everything I felt while in the presence of the creatives on the film… this will go down in history as one of the ones that started a new tide.”
He compared the tone and impact to earlier MCU disruptors like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Black Panther’, adding that while Marvel hasn’t hit a perfect streak in recent years, ‘First Steps’ might be the one to reset expectations.
“Let’s remember,” Hauser added, “none of us are 100%. Your favourite director has made a less-than-satisfactory movie. Just facts.”
Despite superhero fatigue in the market, excitement around ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ and now ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is on the rise. With Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch leading a new generation of Marvel heroes, the next phase of the MCU is looking bright — and flamin’ hot.
