Julia Fox Urges Women to Be Honest About Cosmetic Procedures

Julia Fox isn’t here for fake perfection.

The Uncut Gems actress is doubling down on her belief that women should be upfront about the cosmetic work they’ve done. At 35, she’s already been open about having Botox and liposuction, and she’s praising the new wave of transparency around beauty treatments.

In an interview with People, Fox said, “I love it. I think we should be honest.” For her, it’s about the bigger picture-especially when it comes to the impact on young, impressionable girls. “Women set the bar for each other,” she explained. “And I feel like if you’re setting an unrealistic bar [by not being honest], that’s really great for you-but what about all the girls that are so impressionable and feeling like ‘Wait, why don’t I look like that?’”

She makes a point many ignore: a lot of what we see online or in public is the result of enhancements-fillers, makeup, wigs, face tape, and more. “None of us look like this,” Fox says. “It’s all smoke and mirrors.”

For Fox, it’s not about shaming those who choose to alter their appearance-it’s about owning it. She believes that kind of honesty empowers others and helps strip away harmful illusions. “It’s really important [to tell] girls there’s nothing wrong with you. You’re perfect the way you are,” she said.

This isn’t a new stance for Fox. She’s spoken before about how her relationship with beauty has shifted over time, especially since becoming a mother. In an interview with Vogue, she went as far as to say she finds the word “beauty” oppressive.

“I wish we could take that word out of cosmetics,” she said. “When I’m using make-up or doing skincare, I’m not aiming to look beautiful. It’s more about self-care.”

Fox said her old self used beauty as a way to gain approval-especially from men. That version of her doesn’t exist anymore. She’s since come to see how damaging beauty ideals can be, and how early those messages start affecting girls.

“Look how it affects women and young girls,” she said. “We see the lengths that women will go to-putting their lives at risk, even dying to be beautiful.”

For her now, makeup isn’t about looking hot-it’s about creativity. “It’s another art form,” she said.

Julia Fox on cosmetic procedures is more than a celebrity soundbite-it’s a call for honesty, a push to rethink how we define beauty, and a reminder that it’s okay to be real.
