Morgan Wallen has finally addressed his unexpected walk-off from the Saturday Night Live (SNL) stage, and no, it wasn’t about drama, it turns out the guy was just over it and ready to bounce.
The country singer, 31, made his SNL appearance in March, performing two songs from his upcoming album, I’m the Problem, alongside actress and host Mikey Madison, 26. But when it came time for the show’s traditional group goodbye at the end? Morgan was already making his way out, leaving cast, crew, and fans scratching their heads.
Now, he’s setting the record straight. In a chat with Caleb Pressley on Sundae Conversations, Morgan was asked directly if he was mad at the SNL team before bailing early. His answer? “No, no. I was just ready to go home. I’d been there all week.” That’s it. No bad blood. Just a tired artist who didn’t feel like sticking around for the curtain call.
It wasn’t just fans who noticed the exit, though. During the show’s sign-off, Mikey Madison thanked the audience, the cast, and the crew, but right before that, Morgan was seen whispering something in her ear before casually strolling off past the camera like it was no big deal. The whole thing had the internet buzzing, and not in a subtle way.
Shortly after, Morgan posted a photo on his Instagram Story showing a private jet with the caption: “Get me to God’s country.” Naturally, that fueled the fire. When Caleb brought up the post during their conversation, Morgan just smiled and confirmed it with a simple “Yeah.” No further explanation needed. The man wanted out.
And Morgan’s not shying away from the attention. He even dropped merch with the now-infamous “Get me to God’s country” phrase, clearly leaning into the chaos his low-key exit stirred up. Fans ate it up.
But not everyone was impressed. SNL legend Kenan Thompson, 45, responded when asked about it by Entertainment Weekly, saying, “I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.” Ouch.
Turns out, Morgan was originally set to appear in a pre-recorded sketch called Big Dumb Line. According to People, he declined, and his part was handed over to Joe Jonas, 34. So yeah, he was kind of over the whole thing from the jump.
And just when fans thought the moment had passed, SNL fired back with not one, but two sketches the following week poking fun at Morgan’s sudden exit. Talk about keeping the saga alive.
During his musical appearance on the show, Morgan performed I’m the Problem and Just in Case, both tracks off his new album set to drop May 16. So even though he didn’t stick around to wave goodbye, his music definitely left a mark.
As for the whole situation? Morgan Wallen’s SNL exit seems less like a scandal and more like a guy who decided to peace out instead of play along with the usual routine. He wasn’t mad. He wasn’t disrespected. He was just done. And honestly, it kind of tracks with his whole vibe.
