Did Rachel Zegler just throw some shade at Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s relationship? Fans think so – and the internet is eating it up.
While it’s hard not be a fan of the Dune star, some Chalamet supporters take their parasocial love for him to the next level. Ever since the actor came to the scene in 2017 while playing Elio Perlman in the indie romance, “Call Me By Your Name,” the New York native has acquired a massive following. The 29-year-old’s fanbase only grew when he began to tackle more mainstream roles like Dune and Willy Wonka, and he’s now considered one of the most beloved celebrities of our time.
Yet because he’s so adored, some fans have developed a rather unhealthy parasocial dynamic with the French-American actor, where they feel protective over him, as though they were his real-life friend. As a result, these fans have a lot to say about Chalamet’s romantic life, and care deeply about him being with the “right” person.
Since some fans in “Club Chalamet” are a bit too protective when it comes to their favorite indie-screen darling, many believe his relationship with Kylie Jenner is the wrong fit. Several fans have expressed their distaste for the relationship throughout their two years together, since Chalamet is known for tackling movie roles with complex depth, while The Kar-Jenners have a notorious reputation for being superficial.
As a result, many Club Chalamet members are having a hard time accepting their favorite actor’s current relationship status with the Kylie Cosmetics founder.
Snow White Star Checks in On Timothee Chalamet Fanbase
When Cosmopolitan posted a pic of Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner going red carpet official via Instagram, Rachel Zegler left a notable comment. “Is club chalamet gonna be ok” she wrote under the pic of the celebrity couple cozied up together for the paparazzi.
Cosmopolitan humorously responded to the post, saying, “We’re keeping her in our thoughts right now queen.”
Are We Officially Taking These Parasocial Relationships Too Far?
While this situation is ultimately humorous, and Zegler likely wrote the comment as a lighthearted joke, it does lead to a bigger question over whether we as a society have taken our celebrity worship too far. With the rise of social media and “stan culture”, it’s easy to become wrapped up in the personal lives of our favorite movie stars, TV actors, and musicians. And while there’s nothing wrong with immersing oneself in celebrity news and gossip, there is an argument to be made that it has gone a step too far.
When it comes to Chalamet and Jenner’s relationship, we as fans ultimately have no say over what these strangers choose to do with their personal lives. Both seem happy, and that’s really all that matters.
What do you think about this whole situation? Is stan culture just a fun and lighthearted way to engage with artists in a passionate community of supporters? Or has this parasocial dynamic between celebrities and followers gone way too far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
